A PURR-FECT 10: FAT MAO NOODLES CELEBRATES MILESTONE ANNIVERSARY WITH THROWBACK SOUPS AND A LUCKY CAT CONTEST

The popular Thai-style noodle bar marks a decade in Chinatown with two returning noodle favourites at both locations and limited-edition anniversary merch

Vancouver, BC, July 28, 2025 – This August, Fat Mao Noodles, Vancouver’s popular Thai-style noodle bar, is reaching a major milestone – 10 years of serving more than 750,000 bowls of slurpworthy noodles in the heart of Vancouver’s Chinatown. To celebrate, guests will see the return of two favourites, Southern Thai Beef Laksa and Tom Kha Coconut Mushroom Soup, available at both its Chinatown and downtown locations, in addition to the launch of limited-edition anniversary merch.

“It’s incredible to think it’s been 10 years since I first opened Fat Mao in Chinatown, and already three years since we opened the Downtown location,” says Angus An, founder and executive chef of Full House Hospitality, which counts Maenam, Longtail Kitchen, Sen Pad Thai, Fat Mao Noodles, and Sainam in its restaurant portfolio. “The menu hasn’t changed too much since then, though we’ve added a few new dishes and regularly introduce specials. What means the most to me is how Fat Mao has grown with Chinatown and people have really embraced it – not just by our guests, but by the local food community. It’s also humbling to know it’s become a go-to spot for so many of my peers and chefs who just really love noodles.”

Each returning noodle soup is available for two weeks in August – the Tom Kha Coconut Mushroom Soup (creamy coconut soup with mushrooms, infused with galangal & lime leaf, and served with glass vermicelli noodles) from August 1 to 15, 2025 and the Southern Thai Beef Laksa (spicy southern-style laksa, beef shin, peanuts, dried shrimp, wonton egg noodles) from August 16 to 31, 2025. Guests can also add a Crispy Lager to any noodle bowl for $5.

A limited-edition 10 year anniversary t-shirt will be available at both locations, featuring a cartoon design of a happy cat eating noodles. There will also be a Fat Mao contest exclusive for Chinatown diners – “guess how many lucky cats are in the restaurant” to win a $100 gift card.

“I’m so proud of what our team has built over the past decade,” adds An. “It is their dedication and love for the Fat Mao brand that has made Fat Mao what it is today. Fat Mao means ‘prosperous cat’ in Cantonese, and we hope to stay true to the heart of what we do to continue this success: serving comforting bowls of noodles, one bowl at a time.”

Fat Mao Noodles is open seven days a week at both locations, for lunch and dinner. For full hours of operation and for more information, please visit www.fatmaonoodles.com.

About Fat Mao Noodles
Fat Mao – meaning “prosperous cat” in Cantonese — is a modern noodle bar by Chef Angus An with a focus on Thai-style soups plus southeast Asian sides and drinks. Fat Mao now has two locations — the original in Chinatown, and the newest in Vancouver’s downtown — both inspired by the small storefronts that have been handed down through several family generations, and specialize in making one dish over and over for decades.

Enjoy flavourful made-from-scratch broths and locally sourced noodles accompanied by smaller dishes of B.C. seafood, house-made tofu and seasonal vegetable salads at these casual 25-seat open-kitchen eateries. Chef Angus recommends customizing your noodles with spicy sauces, oils, and tangy vinegars to personalize your own fun, comforting, and interactive meal.
